Nantucket, meaning "far away land" was originally inhabited by Indians, then came the Quakers, then the whalers, now it has become the most tony resort on the eastern seaboard.

From Boston on Cape Air’s Nantucket Airlines which flies hourly from 8:15am to 9:15pm (800)352-0714. • Time difference: EST
  • Electrical Plugs Used: U.S.
  • Best Time to Go: Peak is June-Sept. June is a nice month to visit because it is warm enough (usually around 70 degrees) and not overly crowded. July and August are very crowded, even September has become high, peak season on the island. October is also a nice time to visit, but is on average 60 degrees. "Nantucket Stroll" on the first weekend in December is very popular. In May, the wine festival is also fun. Daffodil weekend the end of April attracts.
  • What to Buy: For men: pre-faded nantucket “reds” from Murray's Toggery shop in town. Nantucket Looms makes wonderful throws. For women: Stop in to Vanessa Noel's shoe store
  • What to Wear: For men: cute, printed ties from Ferragamo, Vineyard Vines or Hermes, khaki pants and loafers at night. Women: preppy or just relaxed for daytime-Nantucket is becoming cooler and more individual as far as dress. At night, a sweater or wrap is usually needed. It can become quite cool at night.
  • Recommended:To stay: The Summer House or Cliffside Beach Club which has The Galley restaurant right on the beach. Restaurants: 21 Federal, The Boarding House, The Pearl or for the best classic New England lobster rolls on the planet at the Angler's Club, if you can get an invite to lunch. We hear the folks from The Galley opened "Lola" a new restaurant on the island. Activities for children and adults: Force 5 for surf lessons on Ladies Beach.
